Gyda was born in holding in Humboldt Nevada, and soon after birth it was observed that she had an eye injury. I had been contacted about this blind filly who seemed to be struggling. They worried about putting her on a transport, and her getting banged up by the stronger mustangs. She came to HOTW on July 4th, 2016.
Gyda was named after a Viking princess, and truly grew into that look, but I should've named her Cookie Monster, as she was all about the treats lol
Gyda can see some things minimally, some light, in her one eye, but basically she is considered blind. She appears to have full sight in the other.
Gyda was adopted out at 4 yrs of age in 2020, and her new Mom came out and spent time working with her and getting her used to a new routine & person for a bit before she was moved to her new home.
Lily came to HOTW in Nov 2016 via RRR in Jackson, TN. She was swiftly going blind, and had become dangerously reactive as a result.
There is a thing whereby some animals think that if they cannot see you, you cannot see them, & so with Lily it was the same. She would call for me to let me know where she was, all of the time, and I would whistle to her, and she would be comforted knowing I was near. I hope one day to hear that neighing for me again, when it is my time to leave, her voice in turn guiding me.
Though my heart is literally broken, it is comforted in the knowing she runs free in green pastures that in life she could no longer run in, for being fully blind. She was buried by the pond in the shade of the treeline. I am guessing her age at around 27, My old girl who loved only me. RIP Sweet One.
