The paddock before, simply fenced with solar tape which Arwen the Unicorn refuses to acknowledge, hot on or hot off lol. That is Logan looking at me pondering the potential for horse cookies. He can be such a schmoozer!
I used my tractor to help move those 2" x 6" x 20 foot boards as they were incredibly heavy, and it was just taking to long to move them 2 at a time from the place we had them stored. That tractor my late husband gifted me with has been such a Godsend.
Other than the wood, I used a large roll of handy dandy bailing twine, and a simple pair of scissors. Bailing twine is incredibly strong, and lasts a very long time. I will eventually put in a wood & post paddock, but for now this fits the bill.
This was my helper for the day, Lady Arwen, who is always with me when I am out working on a project lol. I took this photo at some point while hanging boards. Doesn't she have just the most beautiful eyes?! She is very intelligent, and can problem solve in a way I have not seen any of the other horses do. She has been with me the longest, and the reason I began Heart of the Wild Sanctuary.
Bailing twine is your friend if you live on a farm lol. Making sure to catch one of the knobs on the t-post, wrapping & wrapping to make the section secure. I back wrap catching a knob on the bottom as well for extra support. Having it look nice is always good too, so the wrapping design counts, and it works!
Nearly finished. I still have a bit of work to do, but wow, already such a difference. I even hung the gate using bailing twine, and a similar wrapping method. I wanted to make sure I could drive the tractor in & out, accessing both upper paddocks to make cleaning & putting round rolls of hay out, easier. I will replace the 2" x 4" x 20' boards on the right side with 2" x 6" x 20 footers at some point. I did that side first, not thinking about size, and I want it to look the same all around.
Admittedly, hanging the boards was no small task, working by myself (with Arwen looking over my shoulder) managing a 20 foot board, trying to get it level, and attaching them was no easy job, but we did it! I am a firm believer in that old adage ... Where there is a will, there is a way!
12/28/2021 - On my birthday morning, December 26th, as I was heading out to feed Starr & Rose breakfast, I hear that unmistakable sound of a peep. Step back a few steps, glance over the gate on my pony trailer, and this is what I see. I wondered where she went, and now we have winter babies in my pony trailer. And oh my gosh is she being fierce LOL Happy birthday me!! haha ~ A short video of the new Mom ~
