Back in 2015 I gifted my daughter with a baby donkey, purchased site unseen from an auction listing. When we had gone out to pick him up, we were literally taken aback at not only his condition, but especially his mothers. His mother was literally skin & bones, covered in lice (so was the baby), and her disposition was so sad, and so resigned. We begged to be able to purchase her along with her son, but they were reluctant as she was being used by their children to ride. She was so gentle, and they tacked her up with a heavy western saddle despite her condition. We begged, we did, but we ended up leaving with only the baby who Manda eventually named Avondale. I did leave them with a definite wish to purchase the mother if they chose to change their mind. Two weeks later they called me, and had decided they wanted to sell. We were out there in a heart beat, picked her up, and headed home. When we pulled into the drive the donkey honks and calls between the two were so loud, and so frantic, and Momma had not even been led out of the trailer yet. When we released her into his pen the greeting between them brought tears to our eyes. It was a long process getting Momma, now named Lady Bug, back to health, and this is where the donkey stories here at HOTW begin.

12/16/2021 - I haven’t posted anything about the babies in a while, just really been focusing on work related stuff. Thought I’d give a little update, and a short video. This is Sassy and Pudding Pop, and if you remember Sassy is the one that was born in the snow storm last winter. They are not even a year old yet, well actually Pudding Pop is just at a year old, and Sassy is still under. We will be pulling down that chain-link fencing next spring, and it will have a new home with our friends DD & April for use on their farm. It will be nice to get all of that area cleaned up, and made more efficient for our needs. 2022 goals
